Never underestimate the force of nature.

The tragedy this weekend of a ship sinking off the Greek island of Santorini.
Hundreds of ships call there every year without any incident.
I do know that cruise ships and ferries are operated to the highest international safety standards, which are being upgraded all the time.
I have heard via the grapevine that there was a newly promoted captain on board. They were following procedures and were in the right place at the time. If they had come in too fast, the current could have moved them easily. The cliffs are right there and scary. The fear in Santorini always is the wind and current. Though everything was normal, it went wrong on a good day.Time will tell what really happened but thank goodness the evacuation went well with only 2 people still missing out of 1600.
Morale of the Story:Continue cruising, its great and safe. However,do please take safety drills and instructions seriously. The cruise lines do and so should you.
